Relay for Life set in Honokaa

Honokaa High and Intermediate School is hosting a Relay for Life event for the community from 4-11 p.m. April 16 at the Honokaa High School field.

Organizers, volunteers, participants and well-wishers will celebrate survivorship, remember those who lost the battle and fight back by raising money to fight cancer.

Everyone is invited to join this school-community event by starting a team, joining a team or making a monetary donation. If you or someone you know is a cancer survivor and wants to participate, call 775-8800, ext. 3137060, or visit www.relayforlife.org/honokaahshi.

Rotary of Hilo adds member

The Rotary Club of Hilo recently welcomed Keith Okamoto, manager-chief engineer of the county Department of Water Supply, into the club membership.

Okamoto was sponsored by club president Wally Wong.

“I joined the Rotary Club of Hilo because I see it as an opportunity for active community involvement,” Okamoto said. “Meeting new members, learning about issues affecting our local community and sharing efforts affecting the world are just a few of the reasons to join this club.”
