The public is invited to a riveting multimedia presentation, “A Burmese Woman’s Journey,” from 5-6:30 p.m. April 14 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Student Services Building, Room W201.

Mya Yee Nandar, a UH-Hilo nursing student, will share her frightening and courageous story through videos about her country of origin, Burma, and another showing parts of her life.

Beginning as a tour guide, leading people to remote parts of her country and discovering utmost poverty and lack of health care inspired Nandar to become involved in the health profession. Nandar began her study in Thailand and ultimately was recommended to come to the University of Hawaii at Hilo. What Nandar will share with the audience is like nothing they have heard previously.

This event is being planned by the American Association of University Women, UH Women’s Center and the UH Women’s Studies Department.
