The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host two special events in UCB 127 in observance of International Women’s Day, which is Tuesday.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host two special events in UCB 127 in observance of International Women’s Day, which is Tuesday.

The presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday are free and open to the public.

The film “Girl Rising” will be shown from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The film is about nine girls who strive beyond circumstances and display the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world.

A panel discussion featuring eight female international students will take place from noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The students will discuss gender and women’s issues in various countries throughout the world.

International Women’s Day is a global event that dates back to the 1900s and celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
