Hospice of Hilo will be offering a free, six-week adult grief support group called, “The Healing Journey.”

The group will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays from March 16 to April 20 at Hospice of Hilo’s office complex, 1011 Waianuenue Ave. Meeting times might vary.

“To be alive is to experience loss and as a result of these losses we grieve,” said Hospice of Hilo community bereavement counselor Cathy Hough. “The journey of grief is hard work and is often eased by the support of others.”

Hough said participants are comforted by the validation of their grief and the knowledge that they are not alone. To light memorial candles for their loved ones, write in journals and to learn about the ways that grief “shows up” empowers them to take charge and navigate their personal journey of loss, she said.

Hospice of Hilo has been supporting individuals and their loved ones to live better during their time of need through their ongoing home care program since 1983 and with inpatient services since 2012 at the Pohai Malama a Harry &Jeanette Weinberg Care Center.
