Hilo Daijingu garage sale set
Hilo Daijingu will host its 7th biannual garage sale fundraiser from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. (no early birds) Saturday, March 5, at 10 Anela St.
All proceeds will benefit Hilo Daijingu and help maintain its shrine grounds.
A variety of items will be available for sale, including clothing, household and kitchen items, furniture, toys, books, CDs and DVDs, electronics, baby items, antiques, gardening/outdoor equipment and more. There also will be a food concession.

OHA’s Hilo office moving
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is moving its Hilo office, which will open for business March 7.
OHA’s Hilo staff will be located at Wailoa Plaza, Suite 20-CDE, 399 Hualani St. Office hours will be 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and closed on state and federal holidays.

First aid, CPR workshop slated
The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will conduct a first aid and CPR workshop from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Student Life Center, 200 W. Kawili St.
Instructor Laura Schneider will teach students how to respond to common first aid emergencies, including burns and cuts; head, neck and back injuries; controlling external bleeding; responding to breathing emergencies; checking an unconscious victim; performing effective CPR; and how to use an automated external defibrillator.
Attendees will receive a U.S. Coast Guard-accepted, two-year certificate issued by the American Red Cross. The cost for the workshop is $105. Register online at www.amsea.org or call 907-747-3287.
HPA book club meeting planned
The Hawaii Preparatory Academy Community Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. March 10 in the Dyer Memorial Library, Upper Campus.
Community Book Club meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and participants are invited to bring a snack to share.
Lois Inman, Dyer Memorial librarian, and Jaime Johnson, Upper School English teacher, will lead the group. The current book selection is “A Brief History of Seven Killings” by Marlon James, winner of the 2015 Man Booker Prize, a recipient of the 2015 American Book Award and a New York Times Book Review Notable Book.
