An unattended rubbish fire caused about an acre of cleared brush to burn in a midday fire Thursday in the Waiakea Uka area of Hilo, according to a Fire Department statement.

An unattended rubbish fire caused about an acre of cleared brush to burn in a midday fire Thursday in the Waiakea Uka area of Hilo, according to a Fire Department statement.

Seven companies responded to the 12:32 p.m. alarm, with the first unit reaching the fire on Hoaka Road about eight minutes later.

The fire was extinguished by 1:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported and no developed property was damaged.
