Free tickets to Vuls hoops

All registered keiki basketball players (kindergarten-eighth grade) and coaches in Department of Parks and Recreation’s leagues and Hawaii Police Activities League are eligible for free general admission to the remainder of UH-Hilo’s home basketball games.

Coaches wishing to participate in the program must provide their team’s name, roster, players’ ages, and coaches’ contact information. Coaches of multiple youth teams must submit separate rosters.

HGEA golf tourney Feb. 15

The Hawaii Government Employees Association will be hosting a fellowship golf tournament at Hilo Municipal Golf Course on Feb. 15. Tee times start at 8:12 a.m.

Participation is open to all members in good standing and their guests. Players are encouraged to make their own groups or groups will be formed for a day of fellowship.

Waimea girls hoops league

Waimea Athletics is accepting registrations for the upcoming girls basketball season until Feb. 25.

Age groups include 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 divisions.

Registration is available online at waimea athletics.com. Uniform shirt, league photo and team basketballs included in $20 registration fee.

Honokaa seeks football coaches

Honokaa High will be accepting applications for varsity head football coach and assistants. Applications are available at themain office from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the deadline is Friday, Feb. 19.

Applications may be turned in to the main office or the athletic director’s office, located in the gym.

Top shots; states on tap

Ronald Namamura and Jordan Hara had the highest point totals at a Pacific International Trapshooting Association multiplex shoot in January at the county trap and skeet range.

The top guns in the 50-target event were:

Singles: Nakamura and Hara, 48

Handicap: Nakamura, 48

Doubles: Andy Hallingstad, 45

Subgauge: Neil Arakaki, 46

There will be a Big Island Trap Club registered shoot Feb. 7 and the PITA state championships are Feb. 12-15. Competitive events will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and spectators are welcome. Public shooting will not be held o–n these days.

The Hawaii Cycling Club’s spring event schedule has a variety of offerings for bicyclists of all ages and abilities.

Saturdays, Feb. 6-March 26: Couch to Bike, Yes You Can! Free training for

Hawaii Century. Each training session will start at 7 a.m. at the Kona swimming pool and end at Bike

Works for training plans, cold drinks, a brief lecture and Q&A. Email hcccouch@yahoo.com to receive information.

February 13: The Prologue, a short 10 mile ride or time trial is free.

March 5: The Kua Bay ride or time trial course is 12.2 miles. This event is free,

March 13: The Dragon, features seven hills in the Keauhou area. The event is free but all participants are required to have an annual USA Cycling or a $10 one day USA cycling membership. Pre-registration is required. HCC members have priority.

April 5: The third annual Hawaii Century is a benefit for Hospice of Kona. Starting and ending at Spencer Beach Park, there are three routes – 110 miles, 64 miles and 30 miles. Lots of food and drink.
