Recycle Hawai‘i and Earth-Friendly Schools Hawai‘i presented KTA Super Stores with a Keeping It Green Hawai‘i award in November as part of America Recycles Day.

The Keeping It Green Hawai‘i program highlights activities of organizations, businesses, schools and agencies that foster resource awareness and sustainability in Hawaii.

By recognizing “green projects” taking place in the community, it is hoped others will be motivated to take action toward caring for the environment and addressing local and global issues.

Award nominees must demonstrate commitment and comprehensive ongoing implementation in three or more areas such as reduce, reuse, recycle; zero waste; organic gardening, locally grown food; alternative energy sources; youth or community service projects; protection and conservation of native species; and energy and resource conservation.

Since 2008, 54 businesses, schools and organizations have received a KIGH award.

Founded in 1916, KTA Super Stores is a local family operated supermarket business whose management, operations and customer service clearly demonstrate a commitment to the environment through its “Green Initiatives.”

Keeping It Green Hawai‘i information, nomination form and past award recipients are available at www.recyclehawaii.org or by calling 969-2012.
