Libraries closed Dec. 25, Jan. 1

In observance of the holidays, all Hawaii state public libraries will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, all public libraries that normally offer Thursday evening hours will close no later than 5 p.m. Call your local library as closing times will vary.

For regular public service hours, visit the Hawaii State Public Library System website www.librarieshawaii.org or call your local library.

‘Cherish’ Kona Harp Ensemble

Tickets still are available for the Kona Harp Ensemble’s “Cherish the Child” concert at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kahilu Theatre.

The ensemble, which has been playing together for five years, features the symphonic effect of three harps, woodwinds, clarinet, sax, shakuhachi and ancient Hawaiian bamboo flutes. Get touched by the eternal wings of music by Bach, Pachelbel, Tchaikovsky, O’Carolan, traditional Hawaiian, Celtic, Japanese and Indian music.

Orchestra plays with ‘Passion’

The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra will present “Promethean Passions,” with guest conductor David MacKenzie of Massa-chusetts at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

MacKenzie is the music director and conductor of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. Pieces performed will include Beethoven’s Overture to “The Creatures of Prometheus” and Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 8 in G Major.”

Hospice offering two programs

North Hawaii Hospice is offering two programs to start the new year.

The hospice is offering a Circle of Support Grief Group from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 12 and Expressive Arts, Mandalas, Grief and Healing from 10:30 a.m.-noon Jan. 13.
