The second annual Special Movie Night in honor of Korean War veterans and their families was hosted last Monday at the Doris Duke Theatre.

The film, appropriately, was “Ode to My Father,” which starts with the Korean War and progresses to present, modern day Korea. The film is the second most-watched film in Korean Cinema history, with more than 14 million tickets sold.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Honolulu, KBFD and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs worked together to make this annual event happen. In attendance were: Korean Consulate General Mr. and Mrs. Walter Paik and Hawaii’s first lady, Dawn Ige.

Gov. David Ige and his wife visited South Korea in early November for the first time. They visited the Korean War Memorial of Korea to honor Hawaii residents who took part in the Forgotten War.

Paik mentioned the many Korean War veterans and offered appreciation for their service, and that the strong alliance between the U.S. and South Korea helped modernize that country so it now is the 10th largest economy in the world.
