The Hawaii County Council gave final approval Wednesday to providing another $2 million for a new Mass Transit baseyard.

The $11.2 million facility on Hoolaulima Road will include a 26,500-square-foot building and a 19,500-square-foot warehouse. It will consolidate the Hawaii County Mass Transit Agency’s administration and maintenance facilities.

Construction could begin by the end of the year and be complete by the end of 2016, executive director Tiffany Kai estimated.

The project previously was funded at $10 million. Kai said the lowest bid came in at $11.2 million.
