Charter school teachers honored

A Big Island instructor is one of two Hawaii educators awarded the prestigious Adobe Youth Voices Creative Educator Award.

Kristen Kua from Connections Public Charter School’s Studio Shaka program in Hilo and Shane Cobb-Adams from Kawaikini Public Charter School’s Studio K in Lihue were among 50 educators worldwide to receive the award.

Adobe Youth Voices is the Adobe Foundation’s signature global initiative to increase creativity in educa­tion with advanced digital media tools and powerful storytelling techniques.

Hilo students on dean’s list

Shina Chung, Jayla Nakayama, Liann Yamashita and Erin Yoshida, all of Hilo, were named to the dean’s list at Pacific University in Oregon for the 2015 spring semester.

They are among 378 undergraduate students at Pacific University to achieve the academic honor.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must achieve a term GPA of 3.70.
