The Hawaii County Council allocated another $6 million to fund a new fire station on Haihai Street in Hilo.

The Hawaii County Council allocated another $6 million to fund a new fire station on Haihai Street in Hilo.

The 7-0 vote on Tuesday brings the project’s funding up to $12 million. The project has an estimated cost of $11.2 million.

Bidding for the construction contract for the 12,000-square-foot station will begin Nov. 8.

Construction could take between 200 and 300 days.
