The Hawaii County Department of Public Works and its contractor Yamada and Sons Inc. have begun reconstruction work on the Komohana Street roadway and is proceeding from Kukuau Street towards Waianuenue Avenue.

The contractor’s working hours are from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The project is expected to be complete by Feb. 22, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The project involves the reconstruction of approximately 4,000 feet of roadway, traffic signal upgrades, pavement striping, and replacing utility valves and boxes.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution as heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone. Alternate lane closures will be in effect and, at a minimum, one lane of travel in each direction will be provided at all times through the construction area for the duration of the project.

Hawaii County Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.
