SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Drivers for the ride-hailing company Uber are now legally picking up passengers at the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Airport officials say they’ve given the smartphone-powered company permission to start operating its UberX service as part of a one-year pilot program.

Though both Uber and competitor Lyft used to pick up passengers at the airport, they pulled out months ago amid regulatory upheaval. Lyft started picking up passengers again earlier this month after they hammered out registration process with the state.

Officials support the agreements, saying they give travelers more options. But traditional taxi companies argue the newer companies have an unfair advantage because they don’t have to use specialized ground transportation lanes and or obey rate caps.
