Police are investigating a robbery Tuesday morning in downtown Hilo.

Officers responded to a 6:02 a.m. call to the 200 block of Kamehameha Avenue. A 47-year-old woman reported that she had been sleeping in the doorway of a business when a man tugged on her purse. During a struggle, he kicked her and then fled on foot with the purse.

The suspect is described as a “local male” in his late 20s or possibly early 30s, about 6-feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing dark shorts and a black jacket. He was last seen with the victim’s black purse near the intersection of Kamehameha Avenue and Haili Street.

Anyone with information about his identity or any other information about this case is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
