Albert Anthony “Toni” Irvine, 72, of Pahoa died Sept. 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a drywall hanger and taper. Mass 8 a.m. Friday (Sept. 18) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 15-3003 Pahoa Village Road. Pahoa. Committal to follow. Survived by son, Robert John Kozuki; brothers, Ralph Irvine and Oswald “Oz” (Charla) Irvine; sisters, Mildred Morte, Kehau Kea and Juanita Kaonohi; one grandson; nephews and nieces. Shirley M. Leite, 83, of Hilo died Sept. 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hanamaulu, Kauai, she was a retired licensed practical nurse at the former Puumaile and Hilo hospitals, physical therapy aide at Hilo Hospital, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, treasurer for the former Piihonua Kumiai, and avid golfer and gardener. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Wendell Leite Sr. of Hilo; son, Wendell (Susan) Leite Jr. of Naperville, Ill.; daughter, Harvelee (Casimir) Leite-Ah Yo of Hilo; brother, Lester “Sonny” Matsushima of Hanamaulu; sisters, Lani Sasaki and Penny (Ellsworth) Antonio of Hanamaulu; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Masae T. Saito, 98, of Hilo died Sept. 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paauilo Mauka, she was a retired office manager for Frank Huff Agency, Realtor, member, adviser and first woman president of Taishoji Soto Mission, lifetime member of FCE and member of Komohana Kumiai. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 23) at Ballard Family Mortuary. Service at 11 a.m. Burial at 1:30 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park. Survived by son, Kenneth (Barbara Jean) Saito of Hilo; brother, Dr. Al (Elaine) Takayama of Honolulu; sister, Ruth Shinno of San Diego; one grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins. Dr. Madrid Uso Jr., 68, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 4. Born in Mexico City, he was a retired dentist and U.S. Air Force veteran. Private services.
