Police have charged a former Oahu man for allegedly vandalizing the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo and stealing the part of its bronze spear.

Police have charged a former Oahu man for allegedly vandalizing the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo and stealing the part of its bronze spear.

At 1:20 p.m. Friday, 31-year-old William Roy Carroll III, of no permanent address, was charged with second-degree theft, third-degree theft and second-degree criminal property damage. His bail was set at $11,000.

He remains the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance Monday.
