The top half of a spear taken from the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo last weekend has been found.

The top half of a spear taken from the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo last weekend has been found.

Police say the six-foot-long section was found Tuesday in some nearby overgrowth in the Wailoa River State Recreation Area.

The spear section was last seen Saturday and was reported missing at 2:48 p.m. Sunday.

The statue was installed at Wailoa State Recreation Area in 1997.

Police are still seeking possible witnesses and more information. Call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
