Bayfront Highway and several beach parks in Hilo are closed this morning as high surf produced by Hurricane Ignacio hits East Hawaii.

The closed parks are Coconut Island, Onekahakaha, James Kealoha, and Bayfront. Laupahoehoe Boat Ramp also is closed.

A high surf warning for east- and south-facing shores will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Surf between 10 and 15 feet was expected.

Swells from Hurricane Jimena will maintain surf near warning levels for east-facing shores at least through the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
