The performance: In its third try, Waiakea won its preseason volleyball tournament for the first time, thanks to an MVP performance by Kahauolopua.

In the process, the Warriors and Kahauolopua – a prime No. 1 option at outside hitter – made themselves the team to beat in Division I.

The sophomore will begin her second season as starter Wednesday night when the Warriors host rival Kamehameha.

Waiakea beat Kamehameha on Saturday in the semifinals, then went on to down Hilo in the final.
