Local engineer appointed to NICET board

Local engineer appointed to NICET board

Curtis Beck, P.E., of Hilo recently was appointed to the board of governors of the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies. Beck, an engineer licensed to practice in Hawaii since 1983, was named to the board on July 1 for a three-year term.

A retired senior manager of HELCO, Beck now works with Bowers and Kubota Consulting of Honolulu. He is a member of the Big Island Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers, one of two chapters on the island, the other being the Kona-Kohala chapter.

NICET is a nonprofit organization which trains and provides professional certifications to engineering technicians and technologists who work closely with, or under the direction of, engineers and scientists.

Goodale named Realtor of the Year

Frank Goodale, senior vice president of sales and corporate services of Clark Realty Corp. on the Big Island, was named the 2015 Realtor of the Year by the Hawaii Association of Realtors.

The announcement was made during the HAR board of directors meeting in July.

A strong believer in professional education, Goodale teaches classes for the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors. His accomplishments include earning the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager designation in 2004 and serving as the president of the Hawaii CRB Chapter in 2014. He also served as a past director for the Hawaii Information Service.

At the HAR level, Goodale serves as the current chairman of the Standard Forms Committee, which he has been a member of for 13 years and served as the previous chairman in 2008. He also served as a member of the Electronic Form Review Task Force from 2014-15.

KapohoKine Adventures hires manager

KapohoKine Adventures, a leading Big Island tour company, announces the appointment of Quinn Nelson as store manager.

Nelson will oversee daily operations at the Hilo store, including inventory management, staff scheduling and guest tour assistance.

Most recently, Nelson was the service supervisor at Puna Kamalii Flowers Inc., where she worked with the disabled adults program. In addition to her new position with KapohoKine Adventures, Nelson is the head competitive coach at Pacific Gymnastics.

For 10 years, KapohoKine Adventures has offered guided tours and hikes in the surrounding areas of Kona, Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park by wilderness first aid and first responder certified guides.

De Reus opens Honolulu office

Mark de Reus, founding partner of award-winning, Hawaii-based architecture firm de Reus Architects, announced that Deborah Rosenblum has joined the firm as a partner in the newly opened Honolulu office.

Rosenblum comes to de Reus Architects with 20 years of design leadership experience at WATG.

Recognized in 2010 by Architectural Digest magazine as “one of the world’s top 100 architects and designers,” de Reus Architects is best known for designing private resorts and high-end residences.
