Basketball camp at Panaewa Park

Basketball camp at Panaewa Park

A free basketball camp will be held Aug. 29 at Panaewa Park for ages 5-17.

Sponsored by Athletes for Life, Inc and the Hawaii Island Police Activities Division, the ages 5-12 camp will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., while ages 13-17 will go from 1-5 p.m.

According to a release, “We will be conducting fundamental basketball drills, and also drills that will focus on the speed and agility part of the game.”

The camp will be limited to 75 participants.

UHH keiki sports challenge

The Hawaii Hilo Boosters will host its third Aha Pai`ea Keiki Sports Challenge from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 29 at UHH Gym. Open to ages 7-12, the camp is limited to the first 120 to register.

The event is free, and each participant will receive lunch and a camp T-shirt.

According to a release, “Participants will get the unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and tennis taught by the coaches and players of UH Hilo.

PCA workshops at Waiakea

Waiakea High will be hosting Positive Coaching Alliance workshops on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5.

A parent workshop will be held 6-7:30 p.m. at the Waiakea cafeteria. An athlete workshop will be held 2-3 p.m. at the cafeteria.

All-Filipino hoops tourney

An all-Filipino Labor Day basketball tournament is scheduled Sept. 5-6 in Hilo.

The tournament format will determine number of teams entering.

Special Olympics golf tournament

Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf will hold it’s eighth annual tournament Aug. 23 at Hilo Naniloa Golf Course.

The format will be a four-person modified scramble, and each group will include a Special Olympics athlete. Entry fee is $150 per golfer, and Special Olympians will play for free.

The tee time is at 8 a.m. and all proceeds go to Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf.

“The 15 athletes are excited to play,” a release said. “The field is limited to 60 players total, and is expected to fill quickly.”

The entry fee includes the round of golf, cart, lunch, and 19th-hole awards and prizes.
