UHH to induct

4 to Hall of Fame

Dr. Edward Gutteling, De Silva Elementary principal Dennis O’Brien, Hui Kakoo Kenika president Flavio Nucci and former volleyball All-American Edna Togiai will be inducted into the 2015 Vulcans Athletic Hall of Fame.

Since moving to Hilo in 1993, Dr. Gutteling has been a volunteer team physician specializing in orthopedic medicine.

O’Brien was a basketball standout in the early 1970s, which marked the beginning of Vulcans basketball at the collegiate level.

Nucci was a member of the 1998 NCAA regional championship tennis team. More recently, he is involved with East Hawaii’s Junior Tennis program and the Hilo tennis community.

Togiai-Walker earned NAIA and Russell Athletic first-team All-American recognition in 1989 and still holds the single-season records for kills (517), attempts (1333) and digs (557).

The ceremony is slated for Aug. 26 at Nani Mau Gardens. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and induction to follow. Tickets are $50 per person with tables of six and eight available.
