The Rotary Club of South Hilo installed its board of directors for its 2015-16 Rotary year at a celebration last week at the Hilo Yacht Club.

This year’s club officers are president Kimberly Arakawa, past-president Doug Adams, president-elect Pat Aiona Jr., secretary Jim Wilson, treasurer Tom English and sergeant-at-arms Jimmy Souza.

The new directors for the club are service projects Randy Kurohara, membership Audrey Wilson, Rotary foundation Doug Adams, public relations Lani Weigert and club administration Maria Short.

“I’m so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to serve the club and our community in this way,” Arakawa said. “We have such a diverse and vibrant club and we are all so very committed to helping uplift the life of our community.”

The Rotary Club of South Hilo performs a variety of service projects throughout the year, including the popular Hilo Huli, which to date has raised more than $200,000 for charity.

“As a small-business owner I feel giving back to our community is very important,” said Maria Short, owner of Short n Sweet Bakery and club administration chairwoman. “Joining Rotary allowed me to give, while creating lasting friendships and having fun.”

The club received its charter in 1956 and is made up of business and community leaders committed to performing good works in the community.

Lunch meetings are at noon every Tuesday at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. For more information about the club or to attend a meeting, visit www.rotarysouthilo.org.
