Lowe’s supports Kuhio Village

Lowe’s supports Kuhio Village

Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii was awarded a $70,000 grant from Lowe’s to revitalize the Kuhio Village neighborhood in Waimea as part of Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization, a nationwide program dedicated to serving families through community development partnerships.

Lowe’s awarded $1.2 million in grants to 14 Habitat affiliates across the country to support more than 300 community improvement projects ranging from critical repairs to new home construction.

Habitat West Hawaii will use the funds to repair two multigenerational homes to meet American Disability Act accessibility guidelines. The funds also will be used for a large-scale neighborhood cleanup project and a health fair.

Hotel donates 3 tons to food basket

After a weeklong Team Member Spirit Week of fun, games and inter-departmental competitions, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel employees made a mountain-sized donation to Hawaii Island Food Basket.

Hotel staff packed the Hawaii Island Food Basket van with 6,579 pounds of canned goods, bottled water, bags of rice and more.

In addition, the Spirit Week “dunk your manager” booth raised more than $1,500 earmarked for the Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project.

Spirit Week was held as part of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s ongoing giving campaign, “50 Acts of Aloha,” to celebrate the hotel’s 50th anniversary. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel was the first resort hotel on the Kohala Coast when it opened July 24, 1965. Learn more at TimelessMaunaKea.com.
