Kohala Sail &Sea, a new sailboat charter company operating out of Kawaihae South Small Boat Harbor, has hoisted sail and is offering passengers a fleet of adventures, ranging from morning snorkeling, day sailing trips, sunset cruises and humpback whale watching during winter months.

Kohala Sail &Sea’s primary vessel, Riva, is a sturdy and comfortable 34-foot Islander sloop, designed and built for the open ocean with plenty of room for six.

At the helm of Kohala Sail &Sea is Steve Turner, a longtime Hawaii resident with a 24-year career as a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed skipper.

Turner has a 100-ton masters license and is an award-winning whale-watch captain and ocean conservationist.

He has sailed Riva across the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and North America, voyaged around all of the main Hawaiian Islands, including Niihau, and explored the remote coastlines of Mexico and Canada, all under sail.
