Police have released a Kailua-Kona woman who was arrested early Monday in connection with a domestic dispute that sent a 20-year-old man to the hospital in critical condition.

On Tuesday afternoon, after conferring with prosecutors, detectives released 18-year-old Synise Santos, who was being held at the Kona police cellblock, pending further investigation.

The man was taken to Kona Community Hospital late Sunday with a laceration to his left forearm. He was later transferred to Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigation revealed that he had received the injury during a domestic altercation at an Awakea Street home in Kailua-Kona.

Police arrested Santos at the scene shortly after midnight on suspicion of first-degree assault and domestic abuse.
