The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announced it reopened the Pahoa Senior Center on Monday.

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announced it reopened the Pahoa Senior Center on Monday.

Services returning to the Pahoa Senior Center include the Hawaii County Nutrition Program, Elderly Recreation Services, Coordinated Services for the Elderly, and the Pahoa Senior Club.

In September, as an advancing lava flow threatened to inundate Pahoa, the Department of Parks and Recreation temporarily relocated those operations so the Pahoa Senior Center could be used as an emergency fire station to service the lower Puna community.

Parks and Recreation thanked the public for its patience and understanding while the Pahoa Senior Center was closed for emergency purposes.
