Dinner was provided by Luquin’s Mexican Restaurant and entertainment by Dennis and Christy Soares.

Legislators were honored for coming to the aid of Puna residents and businesses negatively impacted by Hurricane Iselle on Aug. 7, 2014.

As part of the ceremony, the Rotary clubs of East Hawaii distributed $15,000 raised by Project Kokua, a food-tasting event in February in Hilo organized by Maui chef Lyndon Honda and supported by the clubs of Pahoa Sunset, Hilo, South Hilo, Hilo Bay and Volcano.

Awards of $3,000 were presented to five Puna community agencies that were instrumental in the Puna recovery: Kalani Hounua Retreat Center, Neighborhood Place of Puna, Puna Community Medical Center, Kua O Ka La Public Charter School and Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences Public Charter School. Each of these agencies expended valuable resources in helping Puna residents recover after the storm.

The Rotary Club of Pahoa Sunset, dedicated to community service, meets at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Akebono Theater. Everyone is invited to attend.
