Since 1983, Kuikahi Mediation Center has helped to bring about peaceful resolutions to conflicts in the community — first as a program of the Hawaii Island YMCA, and from 2006 as an independent nonprofit organization.

Since 1983, Kuikahi Mediation Center has helped to bring about peaceful resolutions to conflicts in the community — first as a program of the Hawaii Island YMCA, and from 2006 as an independent nonprofit organization.

Kuikahi Mediation Center provides a variety of dispute prevention and resolution services to the East Hawaii community. The center helps individuals, families, organizations, businesses, schools and others to find creative solutions to challenging situations.

To continue providing its services, Kuikahi is asking for donations to “help us grow peace.”

Gifts from the community will support the following programs:

• Peer mediation: Teach our keiki to resolve disputes between students. Peer mediators work in pairs and help other students reach agreements that are fair, safe, and doable.

• Foreclosure mediation: Keep our neighbors from losing their homes to foreclosure.

• Facilitation: Help community groups facilitate meetings on sensitive issues. Facilitation creates a climate that invites creative thinking, protects individuals from criticism and generates ideas so the group can reach its goals.

• Education: Give people the skills they need to prevent and resolve conflict. When community members learn conflict resolution skills, they become ambassadors for peace in their families, schools, neighborhoods, workplaces and beyond.

Kuikahi Mediation Center is at 101 Aupuni St., Suite PH 1014 B-2, in Hilo.
