Nearly 98 percent of car seats installed on Hawaii Island are installed wrong. Improperly installed car seats can cause severe injury and even death.

Public Health Nursing on Hawaii Island will begin providing free car seat inspections the first Thursday of each month in Hilo in January 2016 and the fourth Friday of each month in Waimea starting in July.

Once the free checks begin, those interested should call for an appointment. In Waimea, call 887-8116. In Hilo, call 947-6025.
