Kirk Wah Yick of Hilo received a bachelor’s degree from Champlain College (Vt.) on May 9.
Sharay Souza of Keaau was among more than 700 graduates who participated in commencement ceremonies at George Fox (Ore.) University in early May. Souza earned a bachelor of science in nursing and bachelor of arts in psychology degrees.
Tessa Sarr of Volcano was named to the dean’s list at Bucknell (Pa.) University for the spring semester of 2014-15 academic year. Dean’s list students achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0.
Matthew Boylan of Hilo was among 230 students named to Concordia (Neb.) University’s honors list for the spring 2015 semester. The top 25 percent of all undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list.
In summer 2015, graduate students from Miami (Ohio) University’s Project Dragonfly will travel from throughout the U.S. to Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas to engage in action projects on vital human and ecological issues.
Amelie Sterling of Hilo will travel to Belize to study coral reefs, manatees, howler monkeys, jaguars and other wildlife while learning the methods communities are using to sustain them.
Rachel Kingsley of Volcano will travel to Borneo to study primate denizens, including the orangutan, and develop new ways to engage communities worldwide in primate conservation.
Rebecca Espinoza of Volcano will travel to Namibia to study ongoing research projects such as radio tracking, cheetah conservation and ecosystem management as well as the design of school and community programs.
Psychology major Dezlie Gibo of Laupahoehoe was named to Fort Lewis (Colo.) College’s dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester.
Cheyla Kaeo of Hilo earned her bachelor of arts degree from Midland (Neb.) University on May 16.
Midwestern State (Texas) University hailed 916 honor students for the spring 2015 semester, including Akoakoa Paleka-Kennedy of Hilo, who made the provost’s honor roll.
Kyle Hanagami of Hilo was named to Grand View (Iowa) University’s 2015 spring semester president’s list for earning a GPA of 4.0 while carrying at least 12 hours of classes.
