Boxer Lareau heads to nationals

Boxer Lareau heads to nationals

East Side Boxing Club is seeking donations and a sponsor for Pahoa native TJ Lareau, who qualified for the Junior Olympic boxing championships in Virginia from June 6-13.

Lareau won the 125-pound, 13-year-old division at the Hawaii Junior Olympic championships in late April in Honolulu. The only boxer representing the Big Island, Lareau also won the Outstanding Sportsmanship Trophy at the event.

Ejima is junior world qualifier

Hilo’s Michiko Ejima qualified for the IMG Junior World championship, carding a 186 during two rounds of play in the girls 9-10 division at a qualifier at Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Kauai.

This is the second time Ejima has earned a spot at junior worlds.

Ejima was not included in story about Big Island qualifiers in Monday’s edition.

Arakaki top shoot at skeet range

Neil Arakaki won a Big Island Trap Club shoot earlier this month at the County Trap and Skeet Range.

Arakaki (180) was followed by Ronald Nakamura and DeLance Wiegele (177) in an event in which participants shot 100 targets.

The next shoot is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7.

HPA golf benefit June 5 in Kona

The 19th Annual Hawaii Preparatory Academy Headmaster’s Cup begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start on June 5, at Kohanaiki Golf Course in Kona.

The tournament is a two-player shamble, low-net score format with mulligans available for purchase upon registration. A mid-afternoon reception with pupu and prizes will follow.

Registration is $350 per person, which includes a Kohanaiki golf shirt. Proceeds benefit financial aid and athletics at HPA.
