Aubrey, Green on All-Region team

University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Colleen Aubrey and Emily Greene have been selected to the Daktronics Division II All-West Region softball team on Monday, voted by sports information directors from the West Region.

The first-team all-PacWest seniors were second-team selections.

Aubrey was among the league leaders with a .425 batting average as the team’s lead-off batter. She scored 45 runs, hit 13 doubles and four home runs while knocking in 26 RBIs.

Greene batted .380 with 10 doubles, nine home runs and 38 RBIs. She led the PacWest with 40 walks and an astounding .987 fielding percentage. She recorded 281 putouts with 14 assists and only four errors.

Kim, Kurokawa on All-PacWest team

UHH’s Samuel Kim and Jordan Kurokawa were selected to the 2015 all-PacWest baseball team on Monday, voted by conference coaches.

Kim made the second team. The senior led the Vulcans with a .335 batting average over 45 games. He had three home runs and 32 RBIs. The third baseman recorded 31 putouts and 77 assists with only two errors for a .982 fielding percentage.

Kurokawa was a third-team pitcher. The junior right-hander was 3-4 with a 3.07 ERA. He recorded 68 strikeouts with 24 walks for nearly a 3-1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Kamehameha boys and girls volleyball camps

The Kamehameha School boys volleyball team is hosting its annual “All Day, All Night, Volleyball Camp” for high school boys and girls, along with the Day camp for elementary/middle school volleyball players. The camps are held on the school campus.

The high school sleep-over camp (grade 9-12) is June 7-11. The cost for the high school session is $160 and includes three meals per day.

The elementary/middle school day camp for boys and girls grade 2-8, is June 8-11 and runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Camp tuition is $115 or $140 with a bento lunch option.

The head clinician is Kamehameha coach Guy Enriques. Team discounts are available for seven or more players. Coaches/parents who want to learn and participate are welcomed but must register.

Keaau boys basketball, cheerleading coaches

Keaau High School is accepting applications for boys basketball coach and cheerleading coach. Applications can be picked up at the school’s main office. Deadline to apply is May 22. For more information, call the athletic department office at 313-3450.

Keaau physicals on May 20

Keaau High will be holding physicals at the school gym for all student-athletes on Wednesday, May 20 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Physicals will cover athletic participation for the entire 2015-16 school year.

Cost is $25. Proceeds to support the Keaau High athletic training program. Physical forms will be available at site. Students under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent. For more information, contact the athletic training office at 313-3452.

Hilo High School girls basketball coach

Hilo High School is accepting applications for girls basketball coach. Applications can be picked up at the school’s main office. Deadline to apply is May 15. For more information, call the athletic department office at 974-4021.

Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp in July

The 3rd Annual Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp will be held July 21-24 at Hilo Civic and Panaewa courts for boys and girls 9 to 17 years old. The camp is named in honor of the legendary former UHH basketball coach who helped guide the Vulcans-Hawai‘i Basketball School for 37 years.

UHH women’s basketball coach David Kaneshiro will be the lead clinician and Honokaa girls basketball coach Daphne Honma will be an assistant.

Early registration is $60 per camper. The cost will rise to $70 for players registering after Monday,

July 13. All participants will receive a camp shirt and group photo. Please make checks payable

to the Director of Finance and include the note “Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp.”

Asato memorial golf tournament

A scholarship golf tournament in memory of Arnie Asato, the late lead starter at Hilo Municipal Golf Course, will take place Saturday, June 6 at Hilo Muni.

All proceeds from the two-player scramble format tournament will benefit theHawaii Island Junior Golf Association and University of Hawaii, Hilo golf teams.

Asato died June 6, 2014, in a fishing accident at Malama Flats, Puna. He was 57.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Asato had volunteered in numerous youth baseball and golf programs. At age 17, he started coaching the Ainako Twins baseball team. In 1988, as manager, he led the Big Island team to U.S. championship and second place in the Little League World Series. In all, he had coached 19 years.

In golf, besides being a well-known amateur golfer, Asato had volunteered his service to the Hawaii Island Golf Association, Hawaii Island Junior Golf Association and a number of golf clubs.

The $200 team entry fee will cover the cost of golf cart, green fees and lunch. Entry deadline is May 24. Entry forms are available at Hilo Pro Shop. Wendy Asato at (808) 640-8845 may be reached for further information.
