UH-Hilo honors 2 student-athletes

UH-Hilo honors 2 student-athletes

The University of Hawaii at Hilo honored Dalen Yamauchi and Vanessa Salinas as their Most Outstanding Student/Athletes of the Year on Friday at their annual awards banquet.

Yamauchi twice finished tied for medalist honors during his senior season, first at the Hilo Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in October then again at the UCSD SoCal Intercollegiate in March.

Salinas is fourth in the PacWest in ERA (1.98), second in innings pitched (183.2) and fifth in strikeouts (91) in leading the Vulcans’ softball team to a 31-16-1 record.

Arakaki top shot at BAD Company

Neil Arakaki took top honors at a BAD Company 5-stand shoot on April 19 at the County Trap and Skeet Range.

The top guns in the 100 target sub-gauge event were Arakaki (68), Alfred Pestrello (64 and Ronald Nakamura (56).

The next scheduled shoot is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 17. All shotguns, clay targets, ammunitions and eye and ear protection must be supplied by the participant.

Aikane tennis

Aikane Tennis will be held from 7-10 p.m. May 12 at Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium. Members $2, non-members $5.
