UHH’s Yamauchi, Littel selected to regionals

University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Dalen Yamauchi and Kyeton Littel have been selected to participate in the NCAA Division II Men’s Regional Golf Championships.

They will be heading to the Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif., the site of the South Central/West Regional, May 4-6.

Both will be familiar with the course as the Vulcans participated in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Preview Shootout in March. Yamauchi finished in ninth place with a 10-over-par 226 (70-79-77). Littel was in 36th place at 17-over-par 233 (78-77-78).

Yamauchi also tied for top honors at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate and the UCSD SoCal Intercollegiate. Littel’s top finish was 14th place tie at the St. Martin’s Invitational.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 18-22, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.

The champions of the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association and Great Northwest Athletic Conference claim automatic regional berths. The West Region poll determines the five at-large bids.
