Police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old woman under apparently suspicious circumstances in Fern Acres subdivision in Puna.

At about 10:46 a.m. today, police received a call of an unresponsive woman on Plumeria Street. Responding officers called detectives after seeing what they considered to be a suspicious injury.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m.

The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest, but investigators have not ruled out foul play. No arrests have been made.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.
