Four inmates charged for an alleged attempted jailbreak early Saturday morning at Hawaii Community Correctional Facility were arraigned Monday in Hilo District Court.

Hilo Circuit Judge Barbara Takase scheduled preliminary hearings at 2 p.m. today for 26-year-old Malaki McBride, 26-year-old Kawaipuna Noa and 31-year-old Douglas Kaimiola.

A preliminary hearing for 23-year-old Airiel Jost was scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday.

According to court documents filed by police, the four used a desk to ram a dorm door open, then pried a gate door open in an attempt to escape.

The four reportedly were apprehended before they could leave the jail property.

Damage to the door and fenced gate was estimated at $2,742.

The four were charged with attempted escape and criminal property damage.

Takase maintained each of their bail at $20,000.

All four remain in custody at HCCC.
