Two female visitors were rescued Wednesday afternoon after their sailboat capsized about 400 yards offshore of Honolii Beach Park in Hilo.

Two female visitors were rescued Wednesday afternoon after their sailboat capsized about 400 yards offshore of Honolii Beach Park in Hilo.

According to a Hawaii County Fire Department statement, a county helicopter rescued the women, who were were sitting atop the hull of the overturned 14-foot vessel, shortly after 3:30 p.m.

The women, described in the statement as inexperienced sailors, were taken to Hilo Medical Center for evaluation.
