The Waiakea Lions Club will sponsor a building-maintenance workday from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island’s Pahoa Club.
The Waiakea Lions will be joined by other community volunteers painting interior walls, cleaning jalousie windows, and performing other cleanup work.
One of the island’s premier youth organizations once again was selected by the Waiakea Lions Club as the recipient of their Weinberg Project, supported by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. Along with this service project, Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island will be awarded a check in the amount of $10,000 from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation to further the mission of the Waiakea Lions Club, Harry and Jeanette Weinberg, and BGCBI.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island and the Waiakea Lions Club have a long history of partnership, as far back as the 1960s when the Waiakea Lions helped construct the baseball fields in Hilo and installed the fencing that still stands today. Many Waiakea Lions Club members also were once members of the Boys and Girls Club and are now giving back to the club by volunteering their time and expertise.
