The Waiakea graduate got the final six outs Friday night in his second save, and the University of Hawaii beat Cal State Northridge 1-0 in Honolulu.

LJ Brewster (5-3) struck out five and allowed only three hits and a walk.

UH (13-23, 4-6 Big West), which stopped a four-game slide, scored its run in the first on a wild pitch after Stephen Ventimilia led off with a single and two walks loaded the bases.

Torres-Costa struck out three and allowed a hit. In five appearances out of the bullpen this season, the sophomore left-hander hasn’t allowed a run in 9 1/3 innings.

Calvin Copping (4-4) went eight innings in defeat for the Matadors (22-14, 2-8).

Volleyball

The top-ranked UH men saw their 16-game winning streak come to an end in a 25-27, 21-25, 25-21, 17-25 loss to No. 6 BYU in Provo, Utah.

The Rainbow Warriors (23-4, 18-3 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) still have a chance at earning the regular-season title if they can beat BYU on Saturday and get a UC Irvine loss to UC San Diego.

Kupono Fey led the way with a career-best 19 kills, but UH was outblocked 14.5-5.5.

Brenden Sander tallied a team-high 15 kills for the Cougars (16-9, 13-8).

Softball

Leisha Liilii hit an RBI double and scored on a throwing error, and Brittany Hitchcock pitched into the sixth as the Wahine downed Cal Poly 3-2.

Hitchcock didn’t register a strikeout in improving to 12-6 for UH (25-18, 6-4). After the Mustangs (21-13, 4-6) scored twice against Hitchcock in the sixth, Kanan Aina Cabrales got the final five outs for the save.
