A colorful dragon, cultural dancing and a martial arts demonstration will liven up the Life Care Center of Hilo, which is hosting its Chinese Spring Festival starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The program is free to the public.

Life Care Center staff and activities council members organize the program so residents can experience a cultural event in-house. Residents also enjoy the quality time spent with people in the community.

The Chinese Spring Festival will include a dragon dance performed by the staff, using the dragon head designed by Doug Scheer that was used in the Diamond Head Theater performance of “Flower Drum Song.”

The dragon dance will be followed by a red ribbon dance performed by Life Care activities department associate Ji Rong Kang-Gerrard; a keiki Chinese zodiac fashion show featuring the children of staff members; more dancing by the talented activity staff; and a martial arts demonstration by Mo Min Kuen Monkey Kung Fu of Hilo.

Refreshments will served, including rice cake, noodles and beverages.

The program will be in the second floor dining room of the Life Care Center, 944 W. Kawailani St. For more information, contact the center’s activities department at 959-9151.
