Hilo Public Library continues its Meet the Author events Wednesday.

At 5 p.m. in the computer lab, author Wayne Subica talks about his book “Big Island Hamakua Coast History.” Subica, a local historian and museum curator of the Hawaii Plantation Museum, will discuss the history of sugar cane workers and the plantation era which shaped the Big Island, and share some of the museum’s treasures and stories which he has discovered.

Subica also will share information from many of his published books, including “Hawaii Plantation Pay System &the Old Days” and “Memories of Hawaii – Big Island.”

The library will host one more event later this week:

• 10:30 a.m. April 18 in the computer lab, co-contributors Gloria Kobayashi and Rochelle delaCruz read from the anthology “Aloha ‘Aina Volume II: More Big Island Memories.”

Kobayashi, an editor and retired Waiakea High School librarian, and delaCruz, former Hawaii Public Radio commentator, will share selections from the book which features reminiscences about tsunami, volcanic eruptions, plantation life, local businesses, and growing up before the 1960s.
