UH-Hilo women 16th at preview

In its last tournament before the Pacific West Conference championships, the University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s golf team finished sixth among league teams Tuesday and 16th overall at the NCAA West Regional spring preview in Rohnert Park, Calif.

In a field of 19 teams and 95 golfers, UH-Hilo’s Shannon Abarra closed with a 12-over 84 and tied for 51st at 22-over 166.

The Vulcans (98-over 674) were 68 strokes behind Barry, which claimed a 15-stroke victory. The Buccaneers’ Maria Paola Fiorio (72) took medalist honors by a stroke at 6-over.

The Vulcans’ Erin Costes and Andi Igawa both shot 81s and tied for 55 at 23-over and Mariah Paiste (88) was at 3-over in a tie for 77th.

Na Opio tourney on tap

The Na Opio O Hawaii Volleyball Club will host a coed volleyball tournament April 17-18 at Andrews Gym.

The tournament will host the following divisions: 10 & under; high school, local businesses; novice and open coed teams. Play begins at 5 p.m. April 17 and 9 a.m. April 18, and a minimum of three males can be on the court at the same time with three or more women.

Format and rules will be determined, and the entry fee is $50 for adults and $40 for ages 17 and younger.

Teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Nobu Yamauchi golf tournament

The Nobu Yamauchi Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at 7 a.m. June 11 at Hilo Muni.

Entry fee is $125 and includes green fee, cart, par three closest to the pin, team prizes, and lunch.

Funds raised will be used for the Nobu Yamauchi RBI travel teams, RBI youth league teams, and partial scholarship for RBI players who will be attending college. One male and one female scholarship will be given.

Kamehameha cheerleading assistant opening

Kamehameha is seeking a cheerleading assistant coach. Interested applicants must apply online athttp://www.ksbe.edu/careers.

Flag football

in Kohala

Registration for boys and girls ages 5-15 in Kohala for flag football will be April 13 and April 15 from 4-5 p.m. at Hisaoka Gym.

Practices will start the first week of May. Registration is free and includes a uniform.
