Gertrude Toyoko Choy, 88, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 5 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired data entry clerk for Hawaiian Airlines. Private services. Survived by sons, Jeffrey (Carol) Choy of Aiea, Oahu, and Darryl Choy of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Doralee (Wayne) Kokami of Aiea; five grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Joseph Frederic Barr Rivera, 70, of Honokaa died Jan. 15 at home. Born in Glendale, Calif., he was a master glass artist, owner of Hamakua Art Glass and U.S. Navy veteran. Celebration of life to be announced. Survived by wife, Sandy Barr Rivera of Honokaa; daughter, Christine Rivera of Long Beach, Calif.; brothers, Robert (Lavonne) Rivera of Palmdale, Calif., and Paul (Andrea) Rivera of Canoga Park, Calif.; two granddaughters; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Van Masato Uemura, 60, of Hilo died March 25 at home. Born in Kealakekua, he worked for S. Tokunaga Store and was a member of Big Island Archery Club. Visitation 2:30-4 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 4 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Uemura of Hilo; son, Van (Lehua Nalimu) Uemura Jr. of Hilo; daughter, Sharay Uemura of Hilo; sisters, Sylvia (Kevin) Handy of Waimea and Myra Bailey of Kealakekua; mother-in-law, Nira Kurihara of Hilo; five grandchildren; uncles, aunts, nephews, niece, and cousins.
