The University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center’s annual Girls’ Day Diva Festival on Sunday will honor “founding diva” Jan Higashi.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center’s annual Girls’ Day Diva Festival on Sunday will honor “founding diva” Jan Higashi.

Higashi created the event 11 years ago and has been instrumental as an organizer since. The “Diva Fest” is a fundraiser for the Performing Arts Center Scholarship Fund and the center’s programs.

The festival begins at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Plaza with ‘ono-licious’ food samples from local restaurants: Abundant Life Natural Foods, AJ &Sons Catering, Akmal’s Indian Kitchen, Big Island Delights, Ken’s House of Pancakes, Liko Lehua Café, Millie’s Deli &Snack Shop, Pineapples Island Fresh Cuisine, Ponds Hilo, Sodexo University Dining Services, Sweet Cane Café and Sweet Thunder Sushi.

The event moves to the Performing Arts Center at 5 p.m. for the concert featuring Kaumakaiwa, Shawn Pimental and Kekuhi Keali‘ikanaka‘ole.

Tickets are reserved seating and available by calling or visiting the UH-Hilo Performing Arts Center box office at 932-7490 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu.
