at Wong Stadium

On Wednesday, there will be a youth camp from 4 to 7 p.m. for boys and girls in grades 3-8 at Wong Stadium. Cost of the camp is $65.

On Friday, there will be a softball camp for girls ages 10-18 at Wong Stadium. There will be two parts to this camp: Part 1 is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will be a showcase combine and defensive clinic; part 2 will be a pitching clinic from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Each portion costs $65.

Clinic staff will include U.S. Olympic silver medalist Monica Abbott, MLB scout Nate Trosky, Sonja Garnett who is head coach for Academy of Arts University and Luna College softball and baseball recruiter Darren Wheat.

Teen winter break sailing

Big Island Sailing Foundation and Kona Sailing Club are sponsoring a weeklong sailing camp for youth.

The dinghy/keelboat program for 12-16 year-olds is at Honokohau Harbor.

Novice teens and intermediate sailors over 10 years are welcome. Activities run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 29-31 and Jan. 2.

Certified instructors and lifeguards lead the programs. No sailing experience is required, but participants should be able to swim. Booklets and life jackets are provided.

BISF is a nonprofit organization and requests a fee of $150 from new sailors (including a fee to become KSC Junior member), and $120 from returning sailors. Scholarships are available.

Na Opio hosts

volleyball event

The Na Opio O Hawaii volleyball club will sponsoring a mixed and age-group tournament on Dec. 19 and 20 at Andrews Gym

The tournament will host co-ed teams in the novice and open bracket, high school coed grades 9-12 and age group 10s and 12s, and the fee to enter is $20 plus a gift-wrapped toy for children in the hospital.

A concession is available and proceeds will benefit Na Opio Juniors 18s, who will be traveling to the Las Vegas Invitational.

Hilo Little

League sign-ups

Through Feb 28, Hilo Little League is holding registration for the following leagues:

• Baseball players ages 12-13 for a league with a 60-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths

• Baseball for ages 12-18

• Girls softball for ages 8-12
