Police are seeking a suspect who allegedly tried to steal a parked pickup truck at the Hilo Walmart.

Police are seeking a suspect who allegedly tried to steal a parked pickup truck at the Hilo Walmart.

At 9:19 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call from a 55-year-old Kurtistown woman, who told them she returned to her truck after shopping and found a man inside attempting to steal it. The suspect reportedly forced the door open and fled on foot toward Kanoelehua Avenue.

The woman was not injured.

The suspect is described as a tall Caucasian. He was last seen wearing a dark windbreaker jacket, black pants and a dark hat.

Detectives are checking for video surveillance footage from nearby businesses and are asking anyone who might have witnessed the incident to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Todd Pataray at 961-2382 or tpataray@co.hawaii.hi.us.
