UH Rainbow, Trosky camps

On Nov. 29-30, the University of Hawaii Rainbow baseball camp will be held at Wong Stadium, hosted by UH head coach Mike Trapasso. Cost of the camp is $100 and is for players ages 13 and older.

On Dec. 15-16, there will be a showcase at Wong Stadium for players grades 9-12. Cost is $300. There will be 18 colleges and several MLB scouts in attendance. The showcase will run from 4 to 9 p.m. both days.

On Dec. 17, there will be a youth camp from 4 to 7 p.m. for boys and girls for grades 3-8 at Wong Stadium. Cost of the camp is $65.

On Dec. 19, there will be a softball camp for girls ages 10-18 at Wong Stadium. There will be two parts to this camp, part one is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will be a showcase combine and defensive clinic. Part two will be a pitching clinic from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Each portion costs $65.

Clinic staff will include U.S. Olympic silver medalist Monica Abbott, MLB scout Nate Trosky, Sonja Garnett who is head coach for Academy of Arts University and Luna College softball and baseball recruiter Darren Wheat.

All December events are co-sponsored by Kaha Wong’s Big Island Baseball and Nate Trosky’s Trosky Baseball.

Sunrise Athletics Club sign-ups

Sunrise Athletics Club registration for the 2014-2015 Track &Field Program will be on Nov. 20 and 25 at the Hilo Bayfront AYSO soccer fields. There will be a dark blue pop-up tent next to the bathrooms to register your child. Online registration and more info is also available online at (www.leaguelineup.com/sunrise-athletics).

The program is open to children of all abilities and must currently be in grades 2-8 from any public or private school, or a homeschool program.

The program is coached by former and current high school and collegiate track &field and cross-country stand-outs that focus on developing speed, endurance, stamina, and core strength for sprinting and distance running. Technical skills for fields events such as softball throw and horizontal jumps will also be offered.

Loeffler, Case get honored

Pacific Union freshman Amanda Loeffler, a 2014 Hilo graduate, was named the California Pacific Conference’s Freshman of the Year. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter also made the all-conference second team.

U.S. Air Force Academy junior midfielder Katie Case (Hawaii Prep, 2012) was named to the Capital One Division I Academic All-District soccer team last week.

Trojan girls hoops tourney

The Ka‘u High girls preseason basketball tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at the school’s gym.

The Big Island Interscholastic Federation season starts Dec. 9. The boys season starts Dec. 29.
